How to upload a new theme to my blog keeping my contents safe...?

I want to upload a new theme to my blog...But when i did with one theme my already present contents were removed..Luckily i had made a backup...

So what should i do load a new theme without altering the contents...

I find it curious because supposed to be, a theme is just a design of your blog and should not have any effect on its content.

Are you saying your posts were removed? Or just the contents of the other columns?

I don't use blogger but in my blog, I often change my theme and its content stays as it is.

Well you just need to copy the text file you downloaded or upload it, that's it.

But make sure you back up first to avoid problems.

Yes, this is a common issue I have faced with the themes. When you install a new theme to your blog (for both bloggers and wordpress), some or all the widgets are dissapeared. But I have never heard that any posts are lost...
I don't know why this happpens.. but make sure to take a back up...

you just need to upload the new theme files.and choose it.
you say your present contents are removed.
i think as the new theme has different layout,so you see different things in the front page.

I changed my template of my blogs twice so I know how to handle some changes that might occur when a new template installed.. Well, before I upload the new template, I always make sure to have a backup.. I saved my HTML codes then I always have to copy the needed HTML codes for my widgets and save them so if new template is up, it is just easy for me to put back all the widgets in my blogs.. And one more thing, I haven't experienced losing some of my content..

You're already doing it. Making a back up is one. Or you can save all the codes of your widgets in notepad and then manually add them again if they are deleted when you upload your new template. Not much can be done.

But I find it strange that when you change to a pre-installed template of blogger all contents are not erased. Scenario from a 3 columned template back to a minima template. All widgets are not deleted. These pre-installed templates must be flexible to changes.

I like to learn about this too because when I tried changing my blog's theme all the gadgets such as the blogroll, adsense, and HTML contents were gone so I just stick with the default blogger theme.

So you mean there's no other way but to do it manually? Hmm... I really want to change my blog theme. I found a good theme and I like it so much I found it in Pyzam.

If you are restoring you file make sure all our cookies are deleted or else you will have a error . I dont remember but its a error when you upload a theme .

really?maybe your last tempate didnt match with the new one.like the colomn maybe.i dont know.so far it good at me

In blogger and in wordpress facility is available to keep your content save as a saved file i donot have experience of other blogging facility provider.

If one change his present theme with one of the pre-installed template of google blogger, then no contents/widgets would be lost. But if one downloads a new template and want to install it, then only some of the contents or widgets is going to vanish.

I am also planning to install a new template by downloading it from some other site. Thanks to inform me the possible difficulties in doing so.

good for you, you can upload themes, my problem is this, i need to change my theme into something more personal but i cant, since i do not know how to, im using blogger...

i think it is better to get the thread starter to comment on it again after such a long discussion. i personally did not encountered this type of problem and it serve me a precaution when changing the theme.

In case of your blogspot blog, whenever you are trying to upload a new template you will have the chance to lose some of your html widgets , in that case what i do is to open a notepad and back up all the html widgets , by copying the content from them to it and after installing you can again put them back , in this way you can minimise the loss of data
