Right now, the layout of my blog is two columns. I just don't like 3 or 4 columns...

exactly, 3 column blogs are already cluttered and congested so why go further with 4 columns, having 1 column is still the best option since, your sure that adsense in its side will put many ads as well.lol

I prefer 2 or 3 columns. If I'd like to display ads or other widgets, then I'll choose 3-columns. As I always prefer to have the main content area wider so that it makes the readers easier to read my post. The next column displays categories, tags or recent posts.

If I want to display more ads and widgets, then it'll be placed in the 3rd column. If I only have two columns, usually the ads will be at the bottom, and nobody will notice it, I suppose. So, I prefer to have 3 column layout for certain blogs.

I also have the three column footer, to display Recent comments, Latest posts, Popular posts. So that it may be easier for the readers to navigate, but it won't disturb them from viewing the current post.

I'd think more than 3 column will be too "crowded", and it makes the main content area very narrow, and more difficult to read.

I agree with you, more than 3 column will look the site/blog messy. So it will not good to the eyes. If a site that is too crowded, is not interesting anymore.

I prefer 3 columns and it was because I find it professional looking design. I also read it in article that it is best to use 3 column template. I maybe designing 3 column template in this past few months.

Because of arrival of new generation wide screen monitors there is no prob. with the display of a web page having multiple columns.
