Which is the best way to spread the word about your blog?

I recently started my own blog http://writerhacker.blogspot.com and was wondering how i can improve the traffic to my site and make people aware of this blog. Right now I only have 1 follower .

I think there are more than one method and depending on your blog's topic, the results would be different.

1. You can try to comment on other blogs similar to your blog's topic. That would ensure at least the owner of that blog to visit yours. Use CommentKahuna.com (free software) to find where other similar topic blogs are.
2. Participate in meme. Check out thedailymeme.com where you can find meme on everyday of the week. Join those meme by answering questions and visiting other blogs. Although this method can generate a lot of visitors, you need to be patient to find real friends and followers.
3. Write good posts so that the search engines will find you and bring you visitors.
4. Use videos in your post.
5. Forums are good. Find those that are related to your blog's topic/niche. Search in google.

Well the best way is to have a link to the blog in your signature and post in the various forums.

Senera thanks for posting about those other communities I have not heard of them before. And yes Smartzkool posting in your signature on other forums is one of the ways I have gained a lot of vistors to my blogs. Although it's not a huge amount of traffic it's a start.

More ways to increase visitors:

1. Join social network such as BlogCatalog.com, MyBlogLog.com and other such sites. Actually when you join blogcatalog, you will find out more about other social networking sites. They have widget there for your accounts and usernames.

2. You can use social bookmarking such as Stumbleupon.com, Digg.com, Delicious.com and many others.

3. You may want to use manual traffic exchange for visitors BUT do not use this method if you have google adsense on your blog. Your account would be banned. Another point of note for traffic exchanges, it is usually targeted at people searching for business opportunities rather than information. Use your own discretion regarding manual surf exchanges.

4. Exchange links with other bloggers can also get you more visitors.

I know, blogging suddenly means a lot more work when you need readers and visitors but if you do it right, you will get the rewards eventually.

Thanks those points were helpful . I knew most of them but the linking of blog catalog with other sites is a good feature . I think that might help too. It is important to give time and create a profile or people leave seeing no photo .

then you are in the right track.. link your site through this forum... (signature link).. you can also do blog commenting..

There are many way to drive traffic. if you willing to pay, go for adwords or banner advertising on high traffic blog, else you can choose article submission, blog commenting, forum posting and yahoo answering. By the way, never forget about SEO

I promote my blog through facebook. It went good so far and I have posted the how to in the how to section of this forum. I think it would be easier to use some good and quite popular site to spread the words about the blog. And I have lots of friends which profile could be a good page to 'advertise' a little about my blog. In fact, many people really came.

Well you should try gaining back links and increase your page ranks for gaining visitors from search engines.

At first I will make sure my blog is flooded with good posts. On later stage, I will try to get more traffic with posting on forum, facebook and etc.

I put SEO on the last stage either learning or doing by my own, or pay money for the service. All the effort take time to be implemented and its worth to do so.

Well It is quite hard to get visitors to your site. We really need to work hard for that. I have seen that after I have started my blog.

in my opinion,for a new site,the first thing to do is to let the search engine know your site,let them index your site.or no matter how many posts you have,your site may still not in the search result.

Search Engine will crawl your site but you must not be single directional . You must think in multiple ways and try promoting your website through Social bookmarking websites etc etc.

Well even if search engines crawl your site, you need to post such content which will attract people from search engines and also you need to do SEO.

You hit the nail on the head . In my opinion , its a mixture of a lots of things and one must work in all directions in order to get the vest best out of his/her blog /website .

I agree to that but when you said that search engine will crawl and stuff but you get rarely good amount of traffic from social bookmarking, it generally gives you a back link which helps in SEO and the best thing we should have in our mind is the content, it should be the best.

Lately I joined a blog competition. Not that I was assured that I could win the contest but it was more because I was tickled and wondered if I could get some backlinks. Indeed it worked. People kept coming back to my blog, some are my competitors, who wanted to know how the competition was going on. Well... I got lots of traffic since then.

There are a lot of ways to promote your blog :-

1)Firstly you have to submit your URL to directories so that they can find your blog.
Read this to know some directories where you can submit your URL

2)Be and active member in Forums.

3)Use entre card widget so that you can drop your card and let them visit your site.

4)Comment on other people's blog, this is very effective. And try to back link others blog. This way generally people also backlink to your blog which is useful for PR

5)Promote your blog through Social networking sites ( very very very effective)

twitter is good for getting traffic. but you may also need some other service to do this easily.friendfeed,it will automatically update your twitter state with the title and the link of your new post when your blog update.

Yes you do not need approval for joining Twitter . It is easier to join Social Bookmarking websites.

Hmm... Do blog hopping with other peoples blogs and leave a nice comment in their chatbox also include the domain url of your blog and you can expect some or most of them would check out your blog. Also add a chatbox for your blog.

Although this may increase traffic, but decreases the amount of actual readers. Many people are already doing this. Blog hop, leave a commnet then just go to another blog forgetting to read your content.

the best way to get traffic is use autosurf site.and even there are many site which offers free traffic.like easyhits4u and entrecard.these two are the sites that i am using and i am getting decent traffic

Entrecard works well for me. I like using entrecard because not only people would come to my blog and see whether they would put the ads on my blog or not,but also would be able to put my blog in good blogs so it would draw traffic to my blog. Too bad I didn't make special banner for my blogs so that it wasn't really attractive
